The tradition of giving an engagement ring as a promise of marriage has been around for a number of centuries. As with all traditions that have been around for as long as this one, it is not uncommon that this type of tradition has developed a number of myths surrounding it. Here is a look at some of the common myths that surround engagement rings.

Predicting the Future with Your Engagement Ring

Soon-to-be brides all over the world are reminded not to lose their engagement ring, as it could be a sign of things to come in the marriage. One of the myths surrounding engagement rings is the belief that if lost it symbolizes impending doom for the upcoming marriage.

Use of the Engagement Ring to Find Mr. Right

When a man gets down on his knee to propose with an engagement ring it believed that the woman would instantly know if the man is her Mr. Right. This is because it is believed that the engagement ring will elicit the true feelings of the woman, which will help her realize if the man is right for her or not. It was not uncommon for a woman to be asked exactly how she was feeling the moment the ring was on her finger, as this was taken to indicate whether or not the guy was right for her and if the marriage would last.
